Live By The 3...
I frankly don’t know if I have ever seen with my own eyes a team with as much convictions in their system and their coach as the Houston Rockets. I watched them hoist up three pointer after three pointer in the middle portion of Game 7. They set the record for the most consecutive missed threes (27) in an NBA game. I was so amazed that I had to start writing this with 5 minutes left in the game.
The Rockets came out with a spirited effort that I was impressed with but somewhere along the way, they lost their way. They shot an abysmal 15.9 percent from deep in easily their worst performance I have seen. But it was the way that they refused to abandon their system that garnered respect from me. Yes, I know what I am saying, I am giving props to a team for missing thirty-seven three pointers, but I have never seen the phrase “Live by the three, die by the three” play out in such a fashion.
I don’t want to antagonize the Rockets, but I have a feeling of what could have been. A team that had been scoring on a historic pace only mustered 7 makes when it mattered the most? And no Chris Paul… I truly believe that the Rockets loss will be the motivating force behind general manager Daryl Morey going out and acquiring Paul George this offseason. It would be a continuation of their pursuit of dethroning the Warriors.
